Not really. o: There are those of us who scour for amazing deviations to send in as suggestions for DDs.
The problem seems to lie with people submitting these works to the wrong gallery moderator, or a miscategorisation. A good GM will not ignore a great work.
To be fair, there have been many times when a little known artist suddenly got a lot of attention for a stunning work.
There's also that story of the guy who did some Simpsons fanart, and now he's kind of known for it.
It is true that there are some people who get a lot of DDs because they (or the suggester) have known connections, but it's not always the case. DDs are often selected from a single artist (of course, we have that 3-month cooldown) if they show such consistency.
If I were on any of my previous accounts, I probably would've sabotaged my connections to just get a DD for friends, but I chose not to. I want them to push themselves beyond their boundaries and come up with something that has universal appeal in their gallery before doing so.
Well Iunno... I don't bother putting too much effort into stuff because I have this horrible fear I'll break my back to make something I think is universally awesome and it won't get noticed and nobody else thinks it's awesome ...
Man if I made something like that then nobody would even notice.
it's the truth. You have to have connections to get popular anywhere these days.

Which... might actually be my problem
